Love is in the air…

As Valentine’s Day grew closer and closer, I had been thinking about the treats that I would make for my sweetie, my little DG’s, and my co-workers.  I knew that they would be hearts, but I wasn’t sure how I would decorate them.  Needless to say, I started by just making my dough.
I came to decide that the theme of “Conversation Hearts” would be suitable for the little DG’s.  I made dozens of little hearts and frosted them pink, yellow, orange, green, white, and purple.  They turned out fantastically!

For my sweetie and my co-workers, I decided on making larger hearts, some scalloped and some not.  I also made some small scalloped hearts.
Hope your day was sweet!

Let's Go Pens!

My boyfriend loves everything hockey.  If you have ever seen the movie Fever Pitch, switch baseball and hockey...and there you go.  Okay, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but he really loves the game.  He has played since he was little, has more jerseys than I can count, and goes to almost every home game.

With his birthday coming up, I decided that what a better cake than a hockey cake!  So, I made him a Pittsburgh Penguin Logo Cake.  Here's the deal though.  It was an ice cream cake and I have never made one before.  After literally destroying my kitchen and dying my fingers blue, this is what we ended up with!  All in all, it was a lot of fun and I know have a new skill to master! : )

But the most important part, he loved it!

Here Comes the Bride…

…to sample cookies!

My boyfriend’s mom is an exquisite baker of all things sweet, as is his sister!  Being from Pittsburgh, the majority of their business comes from the famous "Pittsburgh Cookie Tables" for weddings and special events.  They have a wedding coming up this May (on my big 3-0) and asked if I wanted to help.  I gratefully agreed and I was given the task of making the decorated sugar cookies.  The three of us sat down and did some "Sample" cookies for the mother of the bride and the bride.  Here's how they turned out.
