Kale Chips

Well, this baker has stumbled upon something that seemed too good to be true -- KALE CHIPS!!!

So, in efforts to become healthier, I have started to eat healthier and make smarter choices.  I searched high and low for some healthier options for snacks and came across kale chips.  People were raving about them, saying that they were like eating potato chips and I just couldn't see it.  I loved kale smoothies but just could not wrap my brain around eating kale in a chip form.  But after a lot of research... I decided to give it a try.

I made my first batch of kale chips and they were slightly burned but AMAZING!  I was so happy with the results.  Three batches later... I have perfected the science of not burning the kale and am about to enjoy some more kale chips as soon as I'm done here!

Here is my simple how to and recipe.  I hope you enjoy!!

How to make kale chips:

Ingredients:

  • Bunch of kale
  • Spray olive oil
  • Sea salt

Kitchen Items:

  • cutting board
  • knife
  • bowl
  • cookie sheet or flat pan
  • cookie cooling rack
  • piece of foil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Wash kale with cold water
  3. Pat kale dry with towel
  4. Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil
  5. Place cooling rack in pan, on top of foil
  6. Cut the spine out of kale (all the way up - pieces of kale will have a U shape)
  7. Place the piece of kale into the bowl and spray the front and back of the kale with the olive oil
  8. Take the olive oil coated kale piece and place it on the cooling rack in the pan (or directly on pan if you don't have a cooling rack)
  9. Continue to repeat the oiling process until all kale is finished or cookie sheet is full
  10. Take sea salt and sprinkle it over the kale

Bake for 8-15 minutes (please watch because there is a very fine line between cooked and burned) or until the pieces of kale have shrunken to about 2/3 their size.

Let cool and enjoy!!!
